Straw Bale Roundhouse Video

 In Blog
Get Rugged produced this wonderful video documenting our summer 2018 build.

During the summer of 2018 Hartwyn completed a straw-bale roundhouse in Aberlour, Scotland.

The build features earthen floors, roundwood framing, reciprocal roof, straw bale walls, a green roof, stone foundations mortared with lime, earth plasters, wattle and daub & lime render.

The result is a very high performance building that requires very little energy to heat. This build also used local materials wherever possible to reduce the energy embodied in the construction phase.
